Unnamed dark science fiction horror mystery
August 9, 2009 It is in the echoes of memories that she
dreams, of liquid roving heat closely following in its wake the greatest evil
should have imagined dressed in ordinary clothes, looking no more sinister than
a kind-hearted librarian, only she didn't imagine him. She could no longer feel
the white and red-touched flames that licked at her skin. He began to open his
mouth and she knew when he uttered her name there would be nothing more she
could do.
Kala woke screaming surrounded in peculiar green, gold and blue
light, a familiar man with a visor over his eyes glowing white stood thousands
of miles away nearly shrouded in darkness. An odd mechanical voice spoke and
she realized she no longer understood the words once so familiar to her, and
then she passed out.
Nathan worked diligently on his partner, carefully
reconstructing her body and her mind, altering small pieces of her personality
to fit the upcoming task. The magic in the air was burning to ash and fell down
as gentle black snow, tracks of white and gray wove down his face in a constant
parade of agony at what he was forced to do to his lover, and yet for all the
agony he suffered and all the thoughts that crossed his mind, the universe did
not end.
Weeks of painstaking work was done to make Kala the perfect
tool for the mission the two had been set to do. Had the Company not found out
that Nathan had been able to bring her back from the soft, warm grips of death
incarnate he would have been satisfied in life, and yet Vistaris would be nigh
unstoppable. The Company had found out however, and no agents had been deemed
capable of taking down the organization of presumed magical terrorists besides
the pair, else they may have allowed Nathan to leave her as she was.
Kala innately knew that she was on a mission, she had a lot
of memories but they seemed almost as if they were dreams. Kala's golden-thread
hair had become more of a bronze due to the magic used, she should have
remembered to scold Nathan for his lack of practicing with life-based magics
but she didn't realize that it was this ineptitude that had kept her imperfect;
she hadn't even realized she was imperfect. Her eyes held a strange luster in
the pale green that startled him when he finally noticed. She wondered why he
hardly looked at her, remembering her great love for him still. She knew he had
done something to her for the mission, altered her somehow but she could
remember why.
The two were headed to the spider's shop, if Kala was
successful she would learn all about Vistaris and the two would burn the web
that surrounded the focal point, they'd destroy a woman and her group would
shatter. Nathan was known to this woman, Alexandra Cordial and he had to take a
different route to get there, and yet Kala was able to observe him though no
other could as he guided her to the mouth of the dragon.
